Alison is originally from Ashford. She then lived in London for a time before settling in Canterbury. She studied Illustration at Kent Institute of Art and Design, where she became a painter. Following a career in teaching and raising a family, she now works part-time in schools, allowing her time to take up painting once again
Alison works in oils, producing paintings both large and small, focusing on botanical still life and landscapes. As an avid gardener, she derives much inspiration from flowers and often paints en plein air. She uses both alla prima and layering methods when creating her artwork.
She enjoys exploring colour, experimenting with shifts between hue, temperature, value, and intensity. Using a variety of brushstrokes, she attempts to create mood. Through line and shadow, Alison tries to represent the posture of a flower, the gesture of a petal, and the twist and folds of leaves as the grow.
